Liability and Insurance Defense
Our liability and insurance defense attorneys handle disputes among insurers and coverage matters for the insured as well as traditional third-party claims. We have extensive experience in the defense of asbestos and silicosis claims, construction liability claims, first- and third-party liability claims, medical malpractice claims, motor vehicle accident claims, premises liability claims, and toxic tort claims.
In addition to defending insurance companies, commercial and business interests, and individuals, we advise clients on preventative measures to prevent injuries and claims and to reduce costs. We also have extensive experience in the defense and representation of motor carriers. This extends not only to litigation matters but also to the initial investigation and analysis of potential death and catastrophic injury claims.
We have been at the forefront of all major tort reform initiatives since the late 1980s and have chaired task forces and councils for the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce the state chamber of commerce, and the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI). We helped write the tort reform measures dealing with slip-and-fall legislation, product liability, and the abolition of strict liability, joint, and several liabilities, and punitive damages. On liability and tort matters, we testify before the Louisiana State Legislatures each legislative session and act as media and legislative spokespersons for the business community in its efforts to level the playing field in the liability arena and the courtroom.
